The American Ballet Theater (ABT) Spring Gala is one of the most glamorous events in New York City, not to mention that this amazing event was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the American Ballet Theater’s 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee this spring. InLove magazine, along with other representatives of the international press, had the honor of being the media sponsor for this fabulous event. ABT and InLove magazine have been close friends for a while, and the ABT dancers visit the pages of InLove quite often. InLove’s winter gorgeous ABT ballerina, Irina Dvorovenko, adorned the 2015 cover. Most of the ABT dancers are always happy to walk right “on pointe” in InLove’s fashion presentations and art projects. And we are always glad to have opportunities to acquaint our readers with graceful ballet stars in a non-traditional, off-stage atmosphere.
However, long before we begin discussing fashion, it should be noted that the ABT Gala is first and foremost the event of gratitude and recognition of the greatest masters of the world of the ballet, where ABT presents so many beautiful and talented world-class dancers during their 75 years in history.
ABT was founded in 1937, but its initial year is considered to be 1940. Originally, the Company was named: The Ballet Theater and, throughout its history, has had 6 artistic directors. Currently, the artistic director is Kevin Mackenzie.
The guests had the opportunity to see a large number of unrivaled masters of ballet take the stage: Cory Stearns, Isabella Boylston, Herman Cornejo, Marcelo Gomes, Paloma Herrera, Maria Kochetkova, Gillian Murphy, Veronica Parts, Xiomara Reyes, Hee Seo, Daniil Simkyn, Julia Kent, James Whiteside, Stella Abrera, Misty Copelend, Joseph Gorak, Alexandre Hammoudi, Sarah Lane, Craig Salstein, Christina Shevchenko, Devon Teuscher, Blaine Hoven, Calvin Royal III, Skylar Brandt, Gabe Stone Shayer, and Roman Zhurbin.
The Gala traditionally began with red carpet, and continued to the Lincoln Center Hall with a unique show presentation. U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy, opened the ceremony with her speech, sharing memories of the love and reverence her mother felt for theater and ballet. She exposed a touching story of how, as a child, she was allowed to attend the rehearsal of the great ballerina Natalia Makarova at the White House.
The performance consisted of 23 ballet excerpts that were part of the ABT repertoire throughout the earlier existence of the company. The world-famous ballet stars superbly performed, mutually alternating performances with videos of historically significant events throughout ABT’s existence. There was only a single 15-minute intermission during the entire performance.
The major official sponsor of the Gala was the famous German fashion house, ESCADA. Naturally, many of the first tier stars, such as Misty Copeland, selected her gowns from the famous German fashion house of Escada for this glamorous anniversary event.
Many stars usually attend the ABT Spring Gala from the world of entertainment, such as, film, music, theater and fashion. This time among attendees were such celebrities as:
Daphne Groeneveld, Fe Fendi, Nancy McCormick, Robert Zimmerman, Muffie Potter Aston, R.Kori and Zhanna Bullock, Michelle Smith, Hale Clawson, Lauren Santo Domingo, Glen McMahon and Kim Jetnil, Natalie Kaplan and Tim Lundy, Diana Cherry, Alexandra Lebenthal , Bettina Zilkha, Ashley Bouder, Kathy Ho, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, Sutton Stracke, Alexis Mabille, Leanne Cope and Shannon Rugani, Xaviera Batista, and others. On the red carpet shining brightly were Ukrainian Irina Dvorovenko with her handsome husband, Maxim Bilotserkovsky, and the new Ukrainian-born soloist, Christina Shevchenko. The presence of the Ukrainian ballet stars among ABT members is a source of pride, because it is now possible to say that the Ukrainian ballet school is being recognized worldwide.
An anniversary celebration of ballet took place, glorifying love, beauty and tenderness, and once again inspiring all the fans of this beautiful dance. Autumn has come, and we, along with many supporters of high art, are happy with the opening of a new theater season, which will hopefully bring thrills, unexpected and unforgettable encounters with classic and modern ballet.
