Walking through the streets of New York, we see fabulous women everyday with fabulous accessories. I don’t mean boyfriends, or bags– I mean shoes. What kind of girl are you? Are you a “say yes before no”, light-hearted, strappy sandal kind of girl? Or do you take charge in your high heeled boots? Do you prefer the center stage while you strut to work? Are you even the strutting type? Or, do you love to venture the city in your flats? Are you a running shoes kinda gal? If you are, Kathy Kelada knows you are confident, goal oriented, organized, and totally unrelaxed. I always wonder how the different shoes I wear change the way people see me. If you’ve ever thought about how your shoes make you, it’s a fabulous idea for you to check out Kathy Kelada’s new book. She writes on her self-discovery and journey with shoes and the ways our style makes us who we are. I loved this book and I’m sure you will too. Take a glimpse.
Kathy Kelada’s previous work as a Hollywood stylist, and her current career of being a life coach and writer is truly an inspiration. Her love for fashion and desire for herself and her readers to find shoes they love, step into them, and follow their dreams, is a beautiful message in this book.
What inspired you to write this book? What is your story?
I went to a lot of writers and publishers, but nobody really understood my vision. They told me it was cost prohibited. The size of the book, the paper I wanted, and the silk cover. As a whole, my book symbolizes my journey and the way that I followed my dream to get to where I wanted. As women we learn to listen to the “no”, then adjust, adapt, and accommodate, and then we move on and I just reached a point in my life where I decided I’m not going to follow that way of thinking anymore; I’m only going to follow the “yes”. I found a wonderful publishing company in New York, with a wonderful fashion artist who works in London. I initially found a pair of shoes she had drawn and I tracked her down, met her in London at the airport, and she agreed to work with me. Along the way, I had a wonderful editor who kept saying “yes this is fabulous, let’s do it”. All of the people working together with such power, made it able to create the book. There’s a message in its creation, and that message is finding your shoe, and being that shoe. I wish for people to hold their shoe, and feel it’s beauty.
What shoe is your kind of shoes? How did you identify different shoes with different personalities?
I am a strappy sandal. I feel fabulous in my strappy sandals and I feel that each shoe identifies to somebody I know and how their personality is related to what shoes are their shoe. I find that it is so important to be yourself and if you can’t be yourself where you are you should find yourself and follow your dreams.
How does one narrow them-self down to one type of shoe?
If you read each description all the way through with fashion, finance, and decision making, you can narrow down to one shoe, but of course we all take on many different shoes through life. Where you are in this moment is one shoe, but adaptability and fabulousness, can change that. Finding your shoe may be hard by combining different aspects of your personality with different styles, and narrowing down to one shoe. But by trying on different shoes you can feel which shoes make you feel most fabulous and which shoes you are most: you in.
This is a great edition to many people’s bookshelves. How would you say your style changes and how people should read this book?
My book is meant to be read in bits. Having fun with it is the key. Sharing it with friends, connecting with other women with your style, is what is really fun about it. Outside of life (success, love, and beauty), following your dreams by feeling fabulous is what I want my readers to feel. This book is a sharing book and loving your shoe is great. I think my book can connect different women. It’s a message I wish all women could feel. It’s fabulous, light, and humorous.
