CRAZY, BIZARRE SPRING
The joyous scent of living
That leaps from life’s perfume
Spring murmurs it’s beginning
From hope and dreams in bloom
(A Song To Spring, by Charlie Smith)
There’s something to be said for spring, with its new life, warmer weather, flowers and trees coming into bloom. Temperatures are on the rise, creating a perfect backdrop for running outside, a new playlist, stylish Instagram posts, sexy spring jackets, and of course, the 80’s fashion fling that has this season at its best. What better way to get acquainted with spring than with a stroll through Shakespeare’s Garden at Central Park. Take the time to get inspired while exploring magnolia and tulip blossoms.
Famous American girl-next-door-with-edge Katrina Law is the inspiration for our cover this season. Beautiful, exotic, sexy, talented and hardcore, Katrina acts, models, dances, practices Taekwondo, and is the lead singer in a band. The City that Never Sleeps is the most inspirational and fascinating city in the world. Broadway producer Daryl Roth inspires me; she is a ten-time Tony Award-winner with over 100 productions under her belt. One of the many is acclaimed Kinky Boots, which carries a big torch for accepting and loving ourselves (and others) for who we truly are. Always staying true to your beliefs. Now that’s a very powerful story, indeed.
Every now and then, inspirations turn into dreams, and dreams do come true… Did you ever hear cello players Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser (together known as 2CELLOS)? They are astounding; the young Croatian cellists’ playlist is uniquely diverse, ranging from classical and film music, to pop and rock. Music is an art form, and all art forms stem from love. There’s always time for love, especially in the spring. Spring brings renewed romance, and we write about everything and everyone we are InLove with. “Love isn’t something natural. Rather it requires discipline, concentration, patience, faith, and the overcoming of narcissism. It isn’t a feeling, it is a practice.” – Eric Fromm
We have more than enough inspirations in store for you this spring. Bask in the beauty of female portraits by Gustav Klimt (recently presented at the Neue Galerie in New York), and beware of the seduction of Green Fairy in our story about absinthe. Make time for a bit of history and opulence with the Grand Opéra de Paris, where our piece provides information about its classic origins and the dreams of a progressive future. Passion and fashion go hand in hand, so feel free to explore the sweet glory of spring through our fashion edit, channeling decades of high-volume glamour and Saturday Night Fever all over again. But don’t expect the staid replica of times gone by; renewed and edgy, our looks all have a modern spin. And if you’re on the hunt for some of the hottest fitness trends, or looking to get in shape while getting in style, check out our “Couture Fitness” edit with its detailed dossier of regimens.
Let spring sweep you off your feet with the best celebrations on the menu: the Easter Parade, Tribeca Film Festival, Brooklyn Folk Festival, Earth Day and Mother’s Day, America the Beautiful – the Macy’s Flower Show, the Green Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, etc., and don’t forget to unleash your inner beer guru with a visit to the Five Boro Craft Beer Fest (with unlimited tastings and live music). Spring is the best season for the craziness of love, the rejuvenation of body and soul, and all sorts of cultural musts. So, do dust off your ten-speed bike, and enjoy the spring breeze and warm sunshine that’s breaking this season wide open!
