When it comes to partying, it’s safe to say Cubans do it best. Whether it’s fashion, food, or music, Cubans embrace their colorful culture in a way that continuously makes life the party we all want to attend. With its melting pot of architectural styles (a mix of Spanish Neoclassical and Art-Deco’s off-balance, vibrant colors), unique combinations make Cuban style our vivid inspiration for this fashion editorial. This summer we are embracing the Cuban way with our La Parranda Cubana fashion edit…
Be the goddess on board (and in charge) racing 1950’s Chevys and Fords wearing this sexy scarf-tiered dress by Diane Von Furstenberg in sea-blue & green; be mesmerized by the colors swirling together in a draped cut with just the right amount of teasing, and a slight hint of orange to really make it pop. Wear it with a Eugenia Kim hat during the daytime, and go quickly into night-mode with a brightly-printed Hermes scarf wrapped around your head, Cuban style. Bring your heels with you in a bag, just to make sure you’re equipped with plenty of sassy style when you feel like getting down after a couple of Cuba Libres.
Embrace the sunset in this Vivetta ruffled halter midi dress, while your arm candy sways in a Hugo Boss plaid sport coat, paired with slim-fit chino shorts.
This summer, men should keep things simple and sleek, splitting their attention between comfort and style. A great way to achieve this is to wear an updated nautical-stripe T-shirt by Comme Des Garcon Play in white and blue, pairing it with white linen shorts or slacks. Military style meets a sporty aesthetic in a khaki-green top by POLO Ralph Lauren, matched with classic slim beige slacks and simple white sneakers (or Dr. Scholl’s suede summer low boots as an alternative). Don’t be afraid to play with colors, wear preppy suspenders over a linen or cotton shirt, and rolled-up jeans. Ted Baker Men’s collection really pairs prints and colors beautifully, and to complement the look, choose an oversized, off-shoulder eyelet dress by Self Portrait in mauve pink for her (with casual white sneakers to make it casual, or in heels for more glamour).
And don’t forget, cross-body bags in bright colors and wide bands are “IN” this season! Try Gucci’s romantic florals, or a bold ZARA to save some cash.
One of my favorites this season is Karla Coletto’s “La Dolce Vita” swag chili-red swimsuit, paired with lace-up heels. Beat the heat with a mojito before heading out on the town at night wearing Mara Hoffman´s steel-blue midi dress.
In Cuba, like any place with a colorful cultural scene, fashion is a statement. It’s an undeniable form of expression that often changes day to day, or from mood to mood. If you’re in for a playful, sweet moment, go for Caroline Constas’ Appolonia dress, or Rag & Bone’s asymmetric floral-print midi dress, paired with a sexy leather corset. Get ready for a vibrant summer with endless choices for your fashion diary. VIVA CUBA!
