For the past 15 years, Brenda has researched the meaning of existence and is ready to share her knowledge. Brenda is also a certified Hypnotherapist and a sound healing and meditation teacher. To gain more insight into the culture at Aquarian Yoga Center, the team at InLove sat down with one of the owners, Brenda Castano.
InLove: For about 15 years you have researched what it means to exist in this universe as a human being. Why did you begin researching such an extensive topic and what have you discovered?
Brenda: At the age of 25, I felt this emptiness inside of me that nothing in the exterior world could fulfill and that’s when my journey took me to research who I am. Since then, I have been reading books on quantum physics, self-help, philosophy, biology, spiritually etc. In doing so, I was able to understand our reality on a deeper level. I came to a realization that we are all energy or consciousness. We are eternal beings of light coming to this earth to grow, experience, evolve and expand. The suffering we experience on earth are lessons we plan before coming to earth and these lessons help us change and ultimately overcome our limitations and fears from previous lives and balance karmas debt. Within growth, evolution, and expansion lies all the answers we seek. I think it’s essential to our own happiness to understand who and what we are. We are not just random pieces of matter that formed at a certain moment in this universe. We have been formed by a divine presence of love. We were chosen to be here for a very specific reason and we get to carry each other along the way.
InLove: In your healing and wellness practices, you seek to enhance the experience of others. When did you know that you held the capacity to be a teacher?
Brenda: The ability to be a teacher is in all of us. I believe we are each given talents and gifts and it’s our responsibility to develop and nurture those talents. I initially began taking courses on the different ways of healing and how to help others overcome their fear, pains and limitations. During this process of learning, I came across what is known as Sound Healing Crystal Bowls and I discovered a center for sound healing in Belmar, NJ which was an hour away from my house. For an entire year, I drove to Belmar, NJ to experience the power of healing. It was until I took one of my friends Elena Vasilevsky to experience the power of sound healing that I gathered the courage and support I needed to take the next step on my teaching journey. After a few months I ended up taking the classes on my own and then I became a sound healing teacher. It’s been over four years since I began teaching sound healing and it has totally changed my life. As of August of this year, I became a Yoga studio owner in Westfield NJ.
InLove: You are also a certified hypnotherapist. What is the process of becoming a hypnotherapist? Are you also placed under hypnosis?
Brenda: The more I study, the more I learn that we have a super power hidden inside us which is called our subconscious mind. I’ve learned that the subconscious mind processes about 400 billion bits of information per second and that blows my mind. In learning this, I knew that hypnosis was one of my most powerful tools to help others release and let go of their painful past. I took a three month course on hypnosis at a school in Union, NJ. I was required to have at least 100 hours of training and I successfully completed the required hours and I became a certified hypnotherapist.
InLove: I’ve seen hypnotherapy sessions conducted on television. I imagine that in reality they are different. Can you describe what takes place in a hypnotherapy session?
Brenda: So my purpose in studying hypnotherapy is essentially to help others. I have created three hypnosis sessions to cleanse the mind of all negative emotions, fears and limiting beliefs that as people, we have been accumulating our entire lives. I often ask my clients, do you clean your house? Do you clean your car? But when was the last time you cleaned your mind? Then I ask, don’t you think it’s time to release all of the things in your life that no longer serve you? That’s when hypnotherapy comes in. During the first hypnotherapy session we work on is self-esteem, during the second session we synchronize our conscious mind and our subconscious mind to work together and during the third session the cleaning comes in. I help my clients go back to when they were born and help them release all of their negative emotions so that they can have a fresh start in life.
InLove: In your many years of healing and meditation practices, what has been most fulfilling?
Brenda: The most fulfilling part has been seeing the impact I can have on somebody’s life. Change can take place so quickly and easily, like magic. Most of all, it makes me very happy to be able to share my gift with this amazing and beautiful world. We are all walking each other home.
InLove: For those who are skeptical or a bit anxious to experience meditation, yoga or hypnotherapy, what advice would you give?
Brenda: Meditation is actually an ancient practice that has been scientifically shown to be restorative to the nervous system, and help with anxiety and depression. Meditation helps bring you to the present moment, the “NOW.” There are no harmful side effects when you practice meditation! Yoga promotes relaxation for the mind, body, and soul. I would definitely recommend it to anybody experiencing anxiety or depression. I recommend beginning with three sessions because it takes time to adjust to yoga and you will most likely see more results the more often you do it. Yoga is not something that has to be done every day, you can start off slow and ease into it. Let your body and mind give you the feedback. In regards to hypnotherapy, hypnotherapy is something that a person has to be really open to and ready for in order to make a change. I would suggest doing hypnotherapy with someone that you trust and someone that you feel comfortable with.
