Marissa Reyes Is Not Chasing the Moment — She Is Holding It

Marissa Reyes interview — a rising actress shaping her career through precision, discipline, and presence rather than noise.

There is a particular kind of presence you notice before you can explain it. Not loud. Not manufactured. Just there. Marissa Reyes carries that kind of energy.

Marissa Reyes Interview: Inside Running Point and Her Acting Process

She does not arrive as someone trying to prove herself. She arrives already inside the moment—listening, absorbing, holding something just beneath the surface. It is what makes her performances land. You feel it before you analyze it.

In Running Point, created by Mindy Kaling and starring Kate Hudson, Reyes steps into a fast-paced, sharp, character-driven world that demands precision. She meets it without force. Her character, Sofia, does not chase attention. She holds it.

In this Marissa Reyes interview, she shares how her role in Running Point reflects her grounded approach to acting.

Beyond the frame, her trajectory continues to build with intention. From Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home to Days of Our Lives, to independent films like Ganymede and A Little Family Drama, and now sharing the screen with Faye Dunaway in The Evily, Reyes is not rushing her ascent. She is accumulating range.

Originally trained in musical theater, she understands rhythm—timing, restraint, silence. Even in stillness, something is happening.

She is not trying to be everywhere. She is choosing where to land. And that is what makes her worth watching.

Inlove: You do not feel like someone chasing momentum. You feel grounded inside it. Where does that come from?
Marissa: My family are my support system and are entirely to thank for my being grounded. Regardless of the ebbs, flows, and uncertainties that are synonymous with being in this industry, the one thing I always know to be absolutely certain and true is my family’s love and their unwavering support for me. That truth, alongside my deep trust in the timing of the universe as it relates to my journey, keeps me whole; it keeps me grounded when the winds—both positive and negative—pick up around me. What is meant to be will simply be, and my family will be right there by my side the whole way through.

Inlove: When you stepped into Running Point, what did you understand about Sofia that is not obvious on the page?
Marissa: Sofia is a personality I am really familiar with. She feels like a more evolved version of characters I have played before, so I had a clear vision of who she was immediately. She is strong, confident, and has fought for everything she has. But it would be a disservice to play only that. She is layered—loving, kind, and protective of those she cares about. That depth is what lives between the lines of the script, and that is what makes Sofia who she is.

Inlove: Comedy exposes timing more than drama. What did this role demand from you?
Marissa: That is absolutely true. Comedy is all about timing. In Running Point, my role is to stay grounded in reality while everything around me becomes heightened. That contrast is what makes the humor land. It sounds simple, but it is actually challenging—especially when your co-stars are incredibly funny and you want to meet them there. Staying rooted becomes the work.

Inlove: You trained in musical theater. Do you still feel that discipline in your work today?
Marissa: Completely. Theater training is foundational for me. It taught me discipline, adaptability, and endurance. I can adjust quickly, work long days, and take direction in real time because of it. Nothing I learned has gone to waste—it shaped how I approach everything.

Inlove: There is a quiet control in your performances. Is that instinct or something you built?
Marissa: It is both. A lot of it is instinct, but I am constantly refining my craft. Every project, every actor I work with, every life experience influences how I perform. I keep what resonates and evolve from there.

Inlove: You are moving between television, indie film, and working with legends like Faye Dunaway. What shifts for you?
Marissa: Each space demands something different. I stay true to my core as an actor, but I adjust my energy depending on the project. Acting is not one-size-fits-all. Being present in each moment allows me to move between those worlds naturally.

Inlove: When did you realize this was not just something you loved, but something you would stay with?
Marissa: I have always known. But it became real when I started working professionally on Disney Channel. That first day on set changed everything. I could see my future clearly, and I never looked back.

Inlove: There is a difference between being visible and being seen. Do you think about that?
Marissa: Absolutely. Especially now. I want to be known for my work and what I stand for. This phase of my career is about defining that—who I am, what I represent, and how I want to be received.

Inlove: You are also creating music. What does music allow you to express?
Marissa: Music is personal in a way acting is not. Acting connects universal emotions, but music comes directly from my own experiences. It is more vulnerable. There is nothing to hide behind—it is just me.

Inlove: Right now, what feels uncertain, and what feels clear?
Marissa: The uncertainty is what comes next in my career. But it feels exciting. The clarity comes from trust—trust in timing, in balance, and in knowing that what is meant for me will come.

Inlove: What are five things you are currently in love with?
 Marissa:
 My puppy, Lucky Clover
 The ocean
 Purple
 Vintage shopping
Watching films I have never seen before
