There’s a certain kind of actor who doesn’t just play a role—he cracks it open from the inside. You feel him before you fully see him. He walks into a scene with quiet gravity, and suddenly the air shifts. That’s Michael Aaron Milligan.
With his breakout role as Kyle in Netflix’s steamy summer thriller The Hunting Wives, Milligan delivers a performance that’s equal parts reckless, raw, and relentlessly human. Playing opposite Malin Åkerman and Britney Snow, his character’s emotional volatility and tragic arc have catapulted him into the center of watercooler conversations and viral recaps. It’s the kind of performance that makes people stop scrolling and start Googling. Who is this guy?
But for those paying attention, Michael’s arrival has been long in the making. From unforgettable scenes in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri to gritty turns in Outer Banks, Black Bird, Ozark, and Samaritan, he’s built a career on playing men with haunted eyes and hearts full of history. Every role he takes on feels like a deep dive into something real.Next, he’s stepping into the shadows of The Murdaugh Murders for Hulu—another high-stakes project where emotional nuance and narrative complexity collide. And it’s clear: the more layered the character, the more Milligan shines.
But who is the man behind the screen intensity? In this rare and revealing interview, Michael Aaron Milligan opens up about his craft, his journey, and what it means to love, lose, and live with purpose.

INLOVE: Let’s talk about The Hunting Wives. Kyle is impulsive, magnetic, and incredibly layered. What drew you to him—and what did it take emotionally to play such a volatile character?
Michael: I was immediately drawn to Kyle because of his wit—he’s dangerously charming. He has no filter or boundaries. I was given permission to let my wild side rip with very few consequences.
INLOVE: That final scene in the series finale—it’s been everywhere. How did you prepare for that moment, and what has the response been like from fans?
Michael: The response has been overwhelming and shocking. I wasn’t prepared for that, and it seems like the fans weren’t either.
INLOVE: You’ve worked with some of the greats—Sam Rockwell, Sylvester Stallone, Shea Whigham. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned on set from a fellow actor?
Michael: I feel tremendously grateful to have worked alongside such brilliant talents. Shea once surprised me on set when he leaned over and whispered in my ear, “How lucky are we? Soak this up, kid.” It’s so cool to live in a place on set of constant appreciation.
INLOVE: You’ve played everything from protective brothers to deeply flawed antiheroes. What kinds of characters scare you—in the best way?
Michael: Characters that scare me are ones who have no moral or ethical compass. Someone who completely lacks empathy could be fascinating to dive into.
INLOVE: You have a gift for intensity, but there’s always vulnerability underneath it. Where does that emotional access come from?
Michael: I suppose that access lives on the surface most of the time. I’m always feeling a sense of love and light.
INLOVE: Coming up, you’re stepping into The Murdaugh Murders. How do you approach playing a character based on a real person in such a high-profile, emotionally charged true crime story?
Michael: I did a lot of research on this person. I was fascinated by his rank in this small town and by all of his eyewitness testimony to such heinous crimes.
INLOVE: You’ve had roles across major platforms—Netflix, Hulu, Apple, CBS. Has there been a moment in your career where you truly felt, “This is it. I’m doing what I’m meant to do.”?
Michael: Honestly, all the time. I’m one lucky SOB to pursue this craft and tell stories for a living.
INLOVE: What grounds you outside of acting? What keeps you sane between the chaos of characters?
Michael: I’m always in the woods, out on the road, traveling as much as possible. I love camping for days at a time, swimming, and hiking in remote places.
INLOVE: Is there a role—on stage or screen—that changed you as a person? One that still lives inside you?
Michael: They all show me something, for sure. Each role reveals certain sides of myself I either prefer to keep hidden or would like to express more often.
INLOVE: And of course, our signature question: What does it mean to you—to be in love?
Michael: To be in love is a synchronistic relationship between your inner self and a higher power—and the choice to give it away.
As the screen fades and the credits roll, there’s something about Michael Aaron Milligan that lingers. Maybe it’s the quiet intensity behind his eyes, or the way he threads vulnerability through even the darkest characters. Maybe it’s the sense that he’s just getting started—that we’re witnessing the rise of an actor who’s not chasing fame, but truth.
In a world obsessed with spectacle, Michael reminds us that the most unforgettable performances come from those brave enough to be fully present. To feel it all. To go there.
And as he continues to step into deeper roles, higher stakes, and more uncharted emotional territory, one thing is certain:
Michael Aaron Milligan doesn’t just tell stories—he lives them, breathes them, and leaves a mark.
We’ll be watching. And we’ll be feeling every moment right along with him.
