INLOVE: Christopher, your role in Black Lightning was a pivotal moment in your career. How did that experience shape you as an actor and as a person?

CA: Working on Black Lightning was an incredible experience for me. The great show creator, Salim Akil, our amazing producers, and the incredible writers gave us the space to engage with complex characters and important social issues. This experience allowed me to develop my professional range and hone the value of representation. On a personal level, it affirmed the need for our voices and unique stories to be told, and our desire to connect with diverse audiences. This role has significantly influenced my perspective on storytelling and its impact.

INLOVE: 1992 is such a powerful film with deep historical context. What drew you to the role of Mercer’s son, and how did you prepare for the emotional intensity of this project?

CA: Being able to embody the role of Antoine King, son of Mercer King (portrayed by Tyrese Gibson), was a dream come true. Because of the film’s rich historical backdrop and the complex emotional journey of the characters, learning the history took precedence. I delved into the historical context to grasp how it shaped my character’s experiences. I also concentrated on the emotional aspects, collaborating closely with the director to deliver a genuine portrayal that aligned with the film’s impactful themes.

INLOVE: Working with legends like Tyrese Gibson, Ray Liotta, and Clint Eastwood must have been incredible. What was the most valuable lesson you learned from them on set?

CA: Working with Tyrese Gibson, the late Ray Liotta, and Scott Eastwood has been an experience I will always cherish. Their professionalism is clearly reflected in their performances. Each of them imparted invaluable lessons about the craft of acting, but more importantly, about personal development. The most profound insight I gained is that even the most esteemed mentors continue to see themselves as students. Understanding this mindset was essential to my ongoing growth.

Inlove: Keyz dives into the true story of a young pianist from the Bay Area. What message do you hope the audience takes away from this film?

CA: I hope audiences come away from Keyz with the understanding that their dreams are within reach, no matter their circumstances. The film is a poignant reflection of the struggles faced by many young men and women in inner cities. My primary message is that their story doesn’t have to end where they are—it’s possible to find purpose and strive to live it fully.

Inlove: You’ve had the opportunity to work with artists from various backgrounds, like Berner. How does collaboration influence your creative process?

CA: Collaborating with artists like Berner, who bring different backgrounds to the table, really shapes my creative process. In a city like San Francisco, where the culture is all about mixing influences and pushing boundaries, these collaborations open up new avenues for creativity. It’s all about blending diverse perspectives to create something fresh and authentic, reflecting the city’s unique urban vibe.

Inlove: Spin The Bottle presents a unique twist on a classic game. What was it like stepping into such a thrilling and suspenseful storyline?

CA: Taking on the thrilling and suspenseful Spin The Bottle, directed by Gavin Wiesen with Justin Long and Ali Larter in supporting roles, was an intense experience. The film’s horror twist on the classic game leads to unpredictable events and takes all our characters on different emotional journeys. Wiesen’s direction and the strong supporting performances added significant depth and personality to an already well-paced film.

Inlove: You’ve spent time studying acting in both Atlanta and England. How have these diverse experiences contributed to your growth as an artist?

CA: The blessing of studying in both the United States and England has heightened my artistic palette by exposing me to new techniques and tools within the art form. Los Angeles’s diverse film industry offered practical, on-the-ground experience, while England’s classical training provided a deeper understanding of traditional dramatic methods and techniques. These different teachings allowed me to express myself in various ways, exploring new abilities that pushed me as an artist.

Inlove: Balancing multiple roles—actor, writer, producer, and musician—is no easy feat. What drives you to excel in so many areas of the industry?

CA: My drive to excel as an actor, writer, producer, and musician stems from a profound passion for storytelling and creativity. Each role offers a chance to explore different aspects of the industry, pushing my limits and enhancing my artistic development. Balancing these roles is challenging but keeps me motivated and engaged, as I find fulfillment in contributing to projects from diverse angles and crafting compelling narratives across various mediums.

Inlove: Looking back on your journey so far, what has been the most empowering moment in your career, and how has it impacted your future aspirations?

CA: The most empowering moment in my career has been producing a project that I feel deeply connected to, both creatively and personally. This achievement validated my efforts and boosted my confidence, reinforcing my belief in the power of perseverance and dedication. It has inspired me to produce even more ambitious projects, with a renewed focus on pushing creative boundaries and making a meaningful impact in storytelling.

Inlove: As someone who wears many creative hats, what does being “in love” mean to you, both personally and professionally?

CA: Being in love, for me, means being one hundred percent dedicated to the understanding, growth, and process of whatever is in front of me. Being in love is putting maximum effort into living freely in purpose and pursuing your dreams.
