While she continues to dominate the industry with standout performances in Snowfall, All American: Homecoming, and Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black, Taylor’s impact stretches far beyond Hollywood. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate for youth in foster care, she is using her voice where it matters most—advocating for the rights and welfare of vulnerable children. Her passion for change is as powerful as her performances, proving that influence is not just about the spotlight but about what you do with it.
In this exclusive interview, Taylor opens up about her groundbreaking role, the deeper meaning behind her work, and how she’s using her platform to ignite change.

INLOVE: Beauty in Black has captivated audiences with its intense drama and layered storytelling. What drew you to the role of Kimmie, and what has playing her taught you about resilience and strength?
Taylor: I was drawn to Kimmie because I’m always fascinated by transformative roles. I really love characters who evolve and surprise you. Her journey is layered, dynamic, and grounded in resilience. I love stories about women discovering their power, and Kimmie’s arc is all about never underestimating the underdog.

INLOVE: Part 2 of the series takes Kimmie on a powerful journey of reclaiming her power. What was it like filming these high-stakes moments, and how did you prepare emotionally for the role?
Taylor: Filming Part 2 was so much fun—especially because Part 1 was so heavy. As an actor and a deeply empathetic person, some of those moments really stayed with me. So getting to see Kimmie’s vindication in Part 2 felt incredibly rewarding. Emotionally, the story gave me everything I needed to prepare. Physically, I trained twice a day and worked closely with our stunt team to make sure my body reflected the strength and intensity Kimmie steps into.

INLOVE: The show dives into themes of power, exploitation, and identity. How do you hope Kimmie’s story resonates with viewers, especially young women navigating their own paths?
Taylor: Even though the story exists in a heightened, fictional world, it reflects very real situations young people face. I hope that for any young woman who relates to Kimmie, she sees that the person coming to save her is herself. She has the power to fight for her strength and the life she deserves. And beyond that, I hope anyone experiencing human trafficking knows there is a way out. You can text HELP to 233733 or, if you’re not able to do that, my DMs are always open, and I can advocate on your behalf.

INLOVE: You’ve worked on major projects like Snowfall, All American: Homecoming, and Divorce in the Black. How has your journey through different genres and characters shaped you as an artist?
Taylor: I’m really grateful I get to do what I love. Every role sharpens me—not just as an artist, but as a person. I treat every project like an opportunity to grow, to collaborate, and to see the world through a new lens. The more stories I get to tell, the more perspective I gain, and that keeps me inspired.

INLOVE: Beyond acting, your work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth is incredibly impactful. What inspired you to take on this role, and what changes do you hope to see in the foster care system?
Taylor: My grandmother was a foster parent for most of my life, so I grew up with an understanding of the child welfare system and what advocacy really looks like. She was also a child advocate herself. When I moved to LA, I wanted to find grounding while navigating my career, so I began volunteering with an incredible organization called Peace4Kids. That eventually led me to CASA LA, where I’ve been volunteering since 2020. There’s still so much progress to be made, but I would especially like to see more resources to keep families unified and more people volunteering as CASAs.

INLOVE: Advocacy and storytelling are both powerful tools for change. How do you see your career intertwining with your passion for social justice and youth welfare?
Taylor: As my career grows, I know I’ll have greater access and a bigger platform to advocate for young people, and that truly excites me. My hope is that my advocacy and my career continue to intertwine—not only through the stories I tell but also by creating opportunities that amplify the rights of young people and drive real change. One of my biggest dreams is to become a UN Ambassador. I was always inspired by Angelina Jolie’s humanitarian work growing up, and I’d love to travel the world, meet with young people, and provide tangible support—both internationally and right here in America. Beyond that, I want to keep pushing past the limits society often tries to place on Black women. I want to be a reflection of the fact that we are limitless.

INLOVE: The entertainment industry comes with its challenges. What has been one of the biggest obstacles you’ve faced, and how did you push through?
Taylor: One of the greatest obstacles I’ve faced in this industry is the quiet battle of feeling like I needed to prove myself to others. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that validation must come from outside of you—that someone else’s recognition defines your worth. But the truth is, the only validation that truly matters is the one you give yourself. I overcame that need by practicing patience, nurturing self-belief, and giving myself permission to exist fully, authentically, and unapologetically. At the end of the day, no one else needs to validate me as long as I do.

INLOVE: Who have been some of your biggest inspirations—whether in acting, activism, or life in general?
Taylor: Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Regina King, Meryl Streep, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and Charlize Theron inspire me. They’re fearless, versatile, and unapologetically themselves.

INLOVE: With Beauty in Black renewed for a second season, what can fans expect next for Kimmie, and what are you most excited to explore in her story?
Taylor: Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say—buckle up! Kimmie’s journey in Season 2 is filled with unexpected twists and moments you won’t see coming. I can’t wait for fans to experience this new chapter with her. It’s a wild ride, and we’re just getting started.

INLOVE: Looking ahead, what’s next for you? Are there any dream roles or personal projects you’re excited to take on?
Taylor: I’m focused on roles that challenge me and reflect powerful, layered women. I want to work on stories that shift culture and spark conversation. I would love to play a powerful historical figure, an athlete, or a fierce femme fatale spy or warrior. I’m also excited to share a personal project close to my heart: a short film I produced and starred in about endometriosis awareness.
INLOVE: Our signature question—what does it mean for you to be in love? And what are you in love with right now?
Taylor: To me, being in love means being devoted and passionate. It’s an action—something you show through everything that you do. Right now, I’m in love with my husband (I’m a newlywed!), in love with learning how to care for our bodies through food, wellness, and movement, and deeply in love with my work. It’s a privilege to tell stories that truly resonate with people.

INLOVE: Your roles often portray strong, complex women navigating difficult circumstances. How much of yourself do you bring into these characters, and has any role changed your personal perspective on life?
Taylor: I’ve actually never played a character that feels exactly like me. I haven’t had that honor yet. In real life, I’m deeply empathetic and a constant observer. I like to call myself a self-appointed anthropologist because I’m genuinely fascinated by people. I build each character from the traits I’ve observed in others, layered with my imagination. I bring my emotional sensibility and curiosity to every role, but I’m careful to separate myself from the character. I’m not playing myself, even if I understand or empathize with them. Each role shifts my perspective in some way. It’s such a gift to step into someone else’s shoes for a bit. It deepens my understanding of humanity every time.

INLOVE: As someone who is breaking barriers in Hollywood, what advice would you give to young Black actresses who are trying to make their mark in the industry?
Taylor: Trust your instincts always. Believe in yourself completely. You are more than enough. Keep sharpening your craft, never stop evolving, and refuse to settle. Stay persistent, stay patient, and stay ready. What’s meant for you won’t miss you. It’ll arrive right on time, and when it does, you’ll be undeniable.

Taylor Polidore Williams is more than a rising star—she is a powerhouse redefining what it means to use your voice, both on and off the screen. From commanding performances to championing those who need it most, her journey is a testament to resilience, passion, and purpose. As Beauty in Black continues to break boundaries, one thing is certain: Taylor’s light is only getting brighter.
