INLOVE: What makes AYON™ with Renuvion® fundamentally different from other skin-tightening technologies currently on the market?
Dr. Shafer: Every decade or so a new technological revolution happens in plastic surgery. AYON with Renuvion does not disappoint. Built on previous technologies, but with great advancement the combination is not 1+1+1 = 3, but rather 1+1+1 = 10. The trifecta combination of ultrasound pulverization of fat, power assisted liposuction and Renuvion plasma skin tightening takes body contouring to the next level.
INLOVE: How should patients understand its advantages in real-world results?
Dr. Shafer: Prior to these technologies we had a limited number of patients who were good liposuction candidates due to others having skin laxity. These patients would need more aggressive surgery such as abdominoplasty. While full surgery is definitely indicated for many people, the AYON with Renuvion has expanded greatly who is a good candidate for the minimally invasive procedure with great results.
INLOVE: Who is the ideal candidate for this treatment — and who might benefit from combining it with another procedure?
Dr. Shafer: The best patients are those with excess fat and mildly loose skin. If your skin is hanging off your body like with major weight loss then an excisional procedure is likely best. But if you are what was previously not a good candidate for liposuction due to mildly lax skin now you got upgraded…
INLOVE: Are there specific age groups or concerns where it truly shines?
Dr. Shafer: Age is not as much of a concern and physical status is more important. If you are a couch potato and expect miracles from plastic surgery then you are not going to be satisified. The patient with the best results are those who lead a healthy lifestyle, don’t smoke, exercise regularly and have a healthy diet. To take your results to the next level we also incorporate metabolic treatments with peptides, hormones and IVs from our Advitam center at Shafer Clinic.
INLOVE: Spring is a popular time for aesthetic refreshes. Why is this season particularly well-suited for treatments like this?
Dr. Shafer: Any procedure is going to require a recovery period, so it’s always better to plan ahead so you are fully recovered from surgery. Healing happens in 3 phases – a few days, a few weeks and a few months, with the skin tightening maximizing in the 3rd phase.
